What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is one of over 60+ naturally occurring cannabinoid compounds found in Cannabis. CBD holds the key to a wide variety of holistic and therapeutic effects. CBD oil is derived from an organic substance formed in the plant’s secretions. Both marijuana and hemp are forms of cannabis. However, cannabis does not mean marijuana. Cannabis is the genus name and general umbrella term, under which all forms of marijuana and hemp fall. Until recently, tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, was the most well-known and studied cannabinoid due to its abundance in marijuana. However, as the second most prevalent cannabinoid in marijuana and the top non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in hemp, CBD has been gaining momentum in the scientific community and media. CBD can not legally be stated as a medical treatment but is quickly growing in popularity as a beneficial dietary supplement.
How does CBD work?
CBD works directly with the human body’s Endocannabinoid System, sending signals to various parts of the body through corresponding receptors. Unlike other cannabinoids such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol(CBD) does not produce a euphoric "high" or psychoactive effect. This is because CBD does not affect the same receptors as THC. Instead, it activates other receptors giving specific potential effects. The activation of the vanilloid receptor by CBD, helps the body mediate body temperature, pain perception and inflammation. The activation of adenosine receptors by CBD gives the anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory effects of cannabidiol. CBD has been shown to activate the serotonin receptor, exerting anti-depressant effects. The same receptor is involved in a series of processes from pain perception, appetite, nausea and anxiety to sleep and addiction mechanisms.
What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the mammalian central nervous system (including the brain) and peripheral nervous system. The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes including fertility, pregnancy, during pre- and postnatal development, appetite, pain-sensation, mood, memory, and in mediating the pharmacological effects of cannabis.
Is CBD legal?
The legality of cannabinoid products in the United States is dependent on their concentration and source. Hemp-derived CBD is completely legal in all 50 states. CBD oil obtained from hemp is legal, because the FDA considers hemp-derived cannabinoids to be food-based products, so their importation and consumption is not restricted. However, it is not legal to grow hemp in most of the US states. You do not need a medical marijuana card or be concerned at all about any legal issues. CBD oil comes from the hemp plant; while it is in the same family as marijuana, hemp is used for clothing, rope, non-dairy milk and so many other products.
Will CBD get me high?
CBD is 100% non-psychoactive, meaning it doesn’t negatively impact your mind or mental process. In other words, CBD does not get you high or stoned. You might be wondering how this is possible. Marijuana plants are bred for high THC; the specific cannabinoid that gets you high. However, cannabis contains many other cannabinoids, most of which do not get you high, like CBD. Some cannabis plants are bred for high CBD content exclusively. These plants are known as ‘hemp’, and only contain trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%). The combination of high-CBD with extremely low amounts of THC is what makes the products derived from hemp plants non-psychoactive.
Are LDV products third party tested?
Yes. We are fully compliant with all Lab Testing Regulations. All LDV products are third party tested and approved.
What is the difference between CBD and THC?
CBD and THC are the two most abundant of the many cannabinoids found in cannabis. While they both interact with the endocannabinoid system, they are different chemicals which have different effects on the human system when consumed. CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce a high like THC. THC interacts with the type 1 receptor (CB1) predominantly in the brain. CBD interacts with the type 2 receptor (CB2) in the immune system, brain, gastrointestinal system and peripheral nervous system.
What are the side effects of CBD vs. THC?
While there is a risk of some negative side effects from THC, according to the National Cancer Institute, it is not possible to have a fatal overdose. Some studies have found evidence that cannabis strains high in THC can cause long-term negative psychiatric effects when consumed by adolescents. Research indicates even large doses of CBD are well tolerated and safe. There have been some reports of dry mouth, lightheadedness, and drowsiness. A recent research review, examining the safety and side effects of CBD, concluded that CBD appeared to be safe in humans and animals. Even chronic use of CBD by humans showed to cause no adverse neurological, psychiatric, or clinical effects.
Isolate vs. Full Spectrum
Full spectrum means you are getting the whole plant. Hemp plants are naturally low in THC, but very high in CBD. To be federally legal, hemp derived Full Spectrum CBD must be below <.03% THC. CBD Isolate is all in the name. It is the separation of CBD from other cannabinoids, acids, and chemicals found in the hemp plant. In its purest form it is extremely well tolerated and effective in helping with pain, inflammation, mood, and general health.
Will I pass a drug test while taking CBD oil?
Our products are 100% Isolate. Isolate contains 0% THC. Full Spectrum products contain a LEGAL limit of less than 0.3% THC. However, we are unable to legally state whether or not one of our customers will pass a drug test for any of our products. Please consult with your doctor and/or employer if this is a concern.
What size dosage of CBD Tincture should I take?
Legally, we are not able to give medical/dosage advice for our products. The precise dropper included in all of our tinctures give flexibility in terms of dosage precision. Easily increase or decrease dosage by the drop. A number of factors determine your ideal CBD serving. This can include your weight, metabolism, and genetics, among others. Because each individual’s endocannabinoid system is unique, some people may only require a small amount of CBD to receive their desired benefits, while others may require much higher serving to experience the same effects. CBD can take time to work, so wait up to 2 hours before ingesting another serving. Remember this rule of thumb: you can always take more, you can never take less. How do I take CBD oil?
Tinctures are one of the most popular and arguably the most versatile form of taking our natural ingredients. They are easy to use and available in a range of various flavors and strengths, including (Mint, Lemon, Grape and Cinnamon; offered in 500mg/30mL and 1000mg/30mL THC FREE). The most popular way to take our tincture is through oral ingestion. These can be mixed with a beverage or hidden in food. Another form of administration is sublingual, meaning you can hold the oil underneath your tongue for 60 seconds before swallowing so the CBD can enter the bloodstream immediately before digestion. You may also apply our tincture as a topical on the skin, which is convenient for targeting localized pain.
Can you vape the tinctures?
We do not recommend vaping our tinctures, as they are not meant to be inhaled.
What is the difference between Hemp Oil and CBD extract?
Hemp oil, or hemp seed oil, is extracted by pressing the seeds of the hemp plant. While hemp oil does possess a number of health-related benefits, hemp seeds do not contain any cannabinoids, so products labeled as “hemp oil” do not provide the reported benefits of CBD, or other cannabinoid-based products. The Hemp Industries Association makes the distinction between hemp oil and CBD extracts, stating, “CBD is not a product or component of hemp seeds. Hemp seed oil does not contain any significant quantity of CBD.”

They are of the highest quality, and very safe.
Is a Prescription or Recommendation needed by a Doctor?
U.S. legislation differentiates between the two, preventing licensed medical cannabis physicians from issuing a prescription for CBD oil, as well as any other type of medical marijuana. Instead, you can only receive a recommendation for medical cannabis. In the case of CBD oil, however, you do not need a physicians’ recommendation to purchase it.
